'Enough is enough!" Suella Braverman rages as immigration hits record high

FAILURE TO HALT MIGRATION IS 'SLAP IN FACE' FOR PUBLIC

RECORD levels of net migration are a "slap in the face to the British public" whose Brexit vote demanded the nation take back control of its borders, Suella Braverman has declared.

The former Home Secretary demanded the Prime Minister uses the tools "Brexit gave us" to "control and reduce" numbers to "sustainable levels".

Mrs Braverman spoke out after damning figures showed net migration soared to 745,000 in the year to December 2022 - up more than 500,000 since 2019.

It has piled fresh pressure on Rishi Sunak to bring forward effective measures to curb the number of migrants moving to the UK.

Mrs Braverman, who ran the Home Office in two stints from September 2022 to earlier this month, accused Mr Sunak of failing to tackle the issue properly.

She said: "Record migration stats show we've let in an extra million people in just two years a population equivalent to Birmingham. The pressure on housing, the NHS, schools, wages and community cohesion is unsustainable.

"When do we say: Enough is enough? We were elected on a pledge to reduce net migration, which was 229,000 in 2019. Today's record numbers are a slap in the face to the British public who have voted to control and reduce migration to sustainable levels.
